Here we continue our tour with more pictures of the beautiful Close Park.
The park now includes an outstanding hosta garden, rose garden, English Country
garden, butterfly garden, and, most recently, an ornamental grass garden containing 125
varieties of ornamental grasses. Many native trees have been added to the park, with the
goal of being a Missouri Native Tree Arboretum. Other special gardens are an the plans
for the park.

On August 8, 2006, the voters of Springfield and Greene County approved a proposal for a
1/4 cent sales tax to further park development in Greene County. Included in the plan is a
botanical center building in Close Park which would house the Missouri Extension
offices (the Master Gardeners group), the Parks Planning  office and facilities for various
floral groups and events. It would combine Nathanael Greene Park, the Japanese Stroll
Gardens and Close Park into a Botanical Center.

It is a beautiful place to de-stress and enjoy nature and the work of many volunteers who
are passionate about their work there. Major Close is there every day digging in the dirt....
and welcomes those who would like to share the joys of Close Park. It is on South Scenic,
between Sunshine and Battlefield.....Hope to see you there.
I know that Tom has more in his Springfield tour.  But let's pause here
and rest for a while as Tom prepares more of his Springfield Tour.
